FIGHTING HIV AND AIDS











INTRODUCTION 

HIV is a virus which attracts healthy cells in the body. People with HIV do not look  sick.If an HIV positive person does not receive medical treatment, the HIV start to attack the immune system. The body then will not able to fight of diseases such as TB.When an infected person start showing symptoms of illness  s/he is said to have AIDS

HIV cannot be cured but it is treatable with medicine


HIV IN NAMIBIA 

~In 2014,there where about  260000 Namibians living with HIV .

~The number was estimated  to rise to 273000 by 2017/8.

~HIV prevalence rate among adults (15-49)was estimated to be at 16%.

~It started with high degrees of infection and nowadays it's going down as the ministries of health and social services in conjunction with non-governmental organizations introduced the ARV(antiretrovial drugs)program. 

~The most infected people are between 15 and 49 years old. 


HIV PREVALENCE BY REGION

CAUSES OF HIV IN THE PAST YEARS IN NAMIBIA 

~High unemployment rates and widespread poverty. 

~multiple sexual partners. 

~high level of violence against woman and children. 

WAYS IN WHICH HIV AND AIDS IS SPREAD 

~Through unprotected sex with an infected person. 

~sharing unsterilized needles with an infected person. 

~from an infected mother to the baby during birth and breastfeed. 

HOW TO STOP OR REDUCE THE SPREAD OF HIV AND AIDS.

~use medicine to treat HIV

~using condoms 

~having only low- risk sex 

~only having partners with same HIV status 

~no sex at all
